CAA records are fairly new, they’re a DNS record that dictates which Certificate Authorities have permission to issue SSL certificates for a given domain. CAs have to check but end users aren’t required to set one up. Still, we recommend taking the five minutes to do it. It’s a great insurance policy against mis-issuance.

Log In
Log in to your 1and1 control panel, choose the relevant package.

Click the Domain Center
You can find this in the Domains panel

Click the Arrow Button
It will be located next to the host name you’re choosing

Edit DNS Settings
It will be in the Domains section of the Options menu

Click Add Record
Select the Add Record button

Enter your CAA record value
Click Add when finished.
